Asphalt Surfacing Supervisor

About the role
Higgins Wellington is seeking an experienced Asphalt Surfacing Supervisor to lead multiple crews in delivering high‑quality asphalt surfacing projects across the region. This hands‑on leadership position requires strong technical knowledge, proactive problem‑solving, and a commitment to safety, quality, and client satisfaction.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate weekly and forward work programmes for multiple sites.
- Allocate labour, plant, materials and subcontractors across crews.
- Lead daily operations, supporting forepersons with technical and sequencing challenges.
- Monitor site performance, manage risks early, and ensure compliance with approved methodologies.
- Take ownership of quality outcomes, inspections, testing and documentation.
- Provide visible leadership in health, safety, quality and environmental management.
- Track productivity, costs and material usage; review reporting and production outputs.
- Act as primary operational contact for clients, RCAs and external stakeholders.
- Coach, mentor and develop forepersons and emerging leaders.
Required profile
- Strong technical understanding of asphalt surfacing operations and methodologies.
- Proven ability to plan, coordinate and supervise complex, high‑risk work.
- Demonstrated leadership, coaching and people‑management capability.
- Sound knowledge of HSQE, QA and environmental management systems.
- Commercial awareness with ability to manage productivity and costs.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
- Class 1 licence with WTR endorsements.
- Site Safe Supervisor Passport (desirable) and leadership or supervisory training (desirable).
