Artistic Director

About the role

Künstlerhaus Stuttgart, a renowned cultural institution founded in 1978, seeks an Artistic Director to shape its artistic programme from 1 January 2024. The role involves leading the institution’s exhibitions, workshops, studios and community‑engagement activities, linking local audiences with international art networks.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement an independent artistic programme aligned with the house’s mission.
• Plan and manage logistics, budgets and timelines for exhibitions and related events.
• Secure project financing and cultivate third‑party funding.
• Design and oversee an education programme linked to the artistic agenda.
• Document projects, produce publications and manage press and public‑relations activities.

Required profile

• Deep knowledge of contemporary cultural production and current artistic discourses.
• High personal initiative, responsibility and strong teamwork orientation.
• Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
• Professional proficiency in German and/or English.
• Proven experience in project financing, fundraising and public speaking.
• Willingness to reside in Stuttgart for the contract duration.
