AI Software Engineer Intern

About the role

We are seeking enthusiastic students to join our R&D and engineering team in Wellington. As an AI Software Engineer Intern you will work on customer‑facing product features that enable autonomous AI agents to query, reason about, and act on data. This hands‑on role offers exposure to novel engineering challenges where the right solution is still being discovered.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement API endpoints and data models that expose real‑time, structured data for AI agents.
• Build, test, and iterate on production AI agents, focusing on reliability, tool‑use, and guardrails.
• Develop AI‑driven operational workflows that monitor, triage, and escalate issues with minimal human intervention.
• Instrument product telemetry and create clean, agent‑queryable data pipelines across product and usage data.
• Analyze pipeline data to generate actionable insights for the platform.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in a New Zealand tertiary institution (NZQA level 6‑10) or completed studies within the last 12 months.
• Studying a discipline in science, technology, engineering, design, or business.
• Legally permitted to work in New Zealand.
• Not previously employed by the company (except part‑time/temporary) and no more than two prior Experience Grant internships.
• Available to work onsite at our Wellington CBD headquarters.
