Wastewater Treatment Operator – Queenstown/Wanaka

About the role

Veolia Australia & New Zealand is seeking a dedicated Wastewater Treatment Operator to join the team at its Queenstown and Wanaka treatment plants. You will ensure the plants run efficiently, meet all regulatory requirements, and deliver high‑quality effluent.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain wastewater treatment plant equipment, including planned, routine, and breakdown maintenance.
• Monitor plant performance to ensure compliance with discharge quality standards and resource consents.
• Perform fault‑finding and repairs on mechanical equipment using workshop tools.
• Generate work orders and manage consumables, materials, and spare parts.
• Identify and promptly escalate maintenance or process issues.
• Participate in on‑call duty rosters and support Health & Safety, Quality Assurance, and Environmental Management Systems.
• Work at remote locations as required and share knowledge with internal staff.

Required profile

• Trades Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Fitter & Turner or similar).
• Hands‑on mechanical experience and proven ability to fault‑find on mechanical equipment.
• Computer literacy.
• Experience in water/wastewater or process industry is preferred.
• Self‑starter with strong analytical, communication, and customer‑service skills.

Required skills
