Senior Planner

About the role

GHD is seeking a Senior Planner to join its Auckland team, delivering high‑quality planning services for both existing and new clients. The role provides technical leadership, mentorship, and contributes to business development within a hybrid work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise planning projects as Project Manager, Technical Reviewer or Project Director.
• Develop and maintain client relationships, attend client care visits and support proposal development.
• Identify new business opportunities, prepare bids and engage in industry networking.
• Manage multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring timelines, budgets and quality standards are met.
• Oversee financial aspects of projects, including budgeting and cost control.
• Mentor and coach team members, fostering a culture of teamwork, integrity and respect.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree with at least 8 years of experience in environmental planning.
• Full membership of the New Zealand Planning Institute (NZPI) or working towards it.
• Deep knowledge of the New Zealand planning system, legislation and local council resource management documents.
• Proven record in regional or local council planning, plan review processes or consenting infrastructure projects.
• Strong project management experience, including financial and programme management.
• Established client networks and excellent communication skills.
