Senior Contracts Manager – Palmerston North & Hastings

About the role

Stantec is seeking a Senior Contracts Manager to provide civil‑engineering expertise for capital transport projects in Palmerston North and Hastings. You will lead tender preparation, contract administration, construction monitoring and quality assurance, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the required standards.

Key responsibilities

• Act as Engineer’s Representative or Principal’s Representative on project administration and surveillance.
• Conduct constructability reviews of designs, specifications and drawings.
• Prepare tender documents and participate in tender evaluation.
• Liaise with external authorities, government agencies and community groups to minimise project impact.
• Mentor junior team members and Engineer’s Representative Assistants.
• Manage project meetings, document discussions and assign actions.
• Track, forecast and report financial performance of construction projects.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation and records in line with client requirements.
• Build and sustain relationships with contractors, clients and internal teams.
• Serve as the primary client‑facing representative on construction sites.
• Perform quality checks and design reviews to ensure compliance with standards.
• Provide technical direction in road design and contribute to design reports.

Required profile

• Senior‑level civil engineering professional with extensive contract management experience.
• Proven ability to manage financial performance and project documentation.
• Experience mentoring junior staff and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with authorities, clients and contractors.
