Process Operator – Food Manufacturing

About the role

As a Process Operator at McCain’s Timaru plant, you will take full responsibility for a production zone, converting locally sourced potatoes into chips and fries. The role operates 24/7 and offers comprehensive training, so no prior experience is required.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the efficient operation of your assigned production zone, owning results and standards.
• Set up and operate computerized machinery with touchscreen interfaces, ensuring smooth production flow.
• Work a structured roster of 12‑hour shifts: 2 days (7 am–7 pm), 2 nights (7 pm–7 am), followed by 4 days off.
• Remain actively engaged in the zone, standing and walking for extended periods each shift.
• Perform basic data entry and documentation for quality control and administration.
• Carry out regular cleaning and sanitation routines to meet food‑safety standards.
• Identify and resolve product or machinery defects quickly.
• Collaborate with a small team while primarily working independently, ensuring clear handovers at shift changes.

Required profile

• High mental agility – quick learning, problem‑solving and adaptability.
• Basic computer proficiency, including touchscreen operation and data entry.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining clear communication.
• Comfort with prolonged standing and walking during 12‑hour shifts.
• Positive attitude, willingness to learn and follow health, safety and food‑quality standards.
• Legal right to work in New Zealand (current visa required; no sponsorship).
• Willingness to undergo medical check, drug screening and reference checks.
