Livestock Representative

About the role

As a Livestock Representative you will work closely with farmers to build strong, long‑term relationships. The role is based in the greater South Otago area, primarily servicing the Owaka catchment, and requires a good understanding of regional needs. You will manage the full livestock procurement process for sheep, beef, dairy and venison, from supply identification and price negotiation through to delivery, payment and issue resolution.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end livestock procurement for multiple species, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
• Lead livestock planning and supplier engagement, sharing market insights and supporting product and brand development.
• Identify and onboard new suppliers, developing practical strategies to grow the business.
• Collaborate with producers to improve on‑farm outcomes and maintain a reliable supplier network.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of the livestock industry with relevant experience, preferably in store stock management.
• Proven ability to build trusted, long‑term relationships with suppliers.
• Capability to forecast supply, assess livestock quality and align procurement with market conditions.
• Clear, professional communication and commitment to compliance with assurance programmes and animal welfare standards.
