About the role
The Libraries & Council Services Assistant will support the daily running of Howick Library, a busy community hub within Auckland Libraries. The role is part‑time (16 or 22 hours per week) and may involve occasional work at other sites in the Howick Local Board area. Flexibility to work weekends and evenings is required.
Key responsibilities
- Provide front‑line customer service to patrons of all ages and backgrounds.
- Assist with the planning, promotion and delivery of library events and programmes.
- Support patrons in using library technology, devices and online resources.
- Maintain library collections, shelving and circulation duties.
- Cover additional council service tasks as needed across the local board area.
Required profile
- Strong people skills with a positive, customer‑focused attitude.
- Flexible, adaptable and reliable in a fast‑moving environment.
- Experience working with diverse communities and an understanding of Te Ao Māori values.
- Clean driver’s licence for occasional travel between sites.
Required skills
- Confidence using digital tools and social media platforms.
- Ability to support patrons with information resources and technology.
