General Medicine Doctor (SAS/Registrar) – New Plymouth, NZ

About the role

Head Medical is recruiting experienced General Medicine doctors at SAS, Registrar or Career Grade level to join a well‑structured service in Taranaki, New Zealand. You will work across inpatient wards and the new Acute Assessment Unit, delivering acute and routine medical care in a supportive hospital environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide inpatient General Medicine care for a diverse patient population.
• Participate in a rotating weekday AAU roster, managing short‑stay acute medical patients (<36 hours).
• Attend outpatient and acute assessment clinics as required.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including nursing and allied health professionals.
• Engage in teaching activities such as MTD meetings, journal clubs and CME events.

Required profile

• Significant post‑graduate experience in General Medicine or Internal Medicine.
• Proven experience in acute hospital settings, including wards and admissions.
• Confidence managing undifferentiated medical presentations with senior consultant support.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Eligibility for MCNZ registration via the Competent Authority pathway.

Required skills

• Current registration or eligibility for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
• Ability to work within a culturally safe framework respecting Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
