Executive Director – Hotel Industry Body

About the role

The Executive Director will steer Hotel Council Aotearoa through its next phase of growth, shaping strategy, advocacy and stakeholder engagement for New Zealand’s hotel sector. Reporting to the Board, you will act as the public face of the organisation, influencing policy, regulatory and commercial outcomes that affect hotel performance and investment.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the council’s strategic direction in partnership with the Board.
• Lead advocacy initiatives and represent the sector with credibility on policy and regulatory matters.
• Oversee financial management and operational performance of a lean organisation.
• Drive membership engagement, event delivery and communications programmes.
• Strengthen internal systems and processes to support sustainable growth.
• Collaborate with the Strategic Director to ensure continuity of sector knowledge while building organisational capability.

Required profile

• Senior leader with proven strategic leadership experience working with a board.
• Strong commercial and financial acumen in a small‑team environment.
• Established credibility within the hotel sector or closely related industries.
• Extensive stakeholder engagement and advocacy background.
• Highly developed communication and influencing abilities.
• Hands‑on, adaptable approach suited to a transition context.
