Cloud Engineer

About the role

Join the Cloud team at NZ Transport Agency and help deliver modern, secure, and reliable cloud platforms. You will work on large‑scale, real‑world platforms primarily using Microsoft Azure, with exposure to AWS, GCP and SaaS services.

Key responsibilities

• Run and evolve the agency’s cloud environment, ensuring performance, security and cost‑effectiveness.
• Collaborate with engineering, product and vendor teams to enable digital innovation at scale.
• Develop and enforce technical strategy, standards and best practices across the cloud landscape.
• Implement infrastructure as code (IaC) and CI/CD pipelines to automate deployments.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues and support operational excellence.

Required profile

• Experienced engineer comfortable in fast‑paced, agile environments.
• Strong communication and relationship‑management skills.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams and external vendors.

Required skills

• Microsoft Azure core services (VMs, networking, Entra ID/Azure AD, AKS, App Services).
• Infrastructure‑as‑code tools: PowerShell, Terraform, Azure CLI.
• Scripting/programming with Python.
• Version control and pipeline tools: GitHub, Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines.
