Asphalt Supervisor

About the role

Downer is seeking an Asphalt Supervisor to lead paving crews across the South region of New Zealand. Based in Invercargill, you will be hands‑on, managing daily paving operations, planning work, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time and to quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in creating project plans, budgets and schedules.
• Supervise on‑site paving crews and subcontractors, ensuring time, quality and safety targets are met.
• Plan daily work, allocate crews, plant and materials, and keep projects on track.
• Complete site paperwork and daily records accurately and on schedule.
• Support monthly claim preparation and assist with estimating and contract variations.
• Build strong relationships with clients, suppliers and internal teams.
• Promote a Zero Harm safety mindset by leading from the front.

Required profile

• Proven experience supervising asphalt or paving crews.
• Practical leadership skills with the ability to motivate and hold crews accountable.
• Strong commitment to safety, quality and doing the job the right way.
• Ability to make decisions and solve problems quickly on site.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with asphalt laying and compaction.
• Knowledge of mix designs and paving plant operation.
• Accurate job measurement and material ordering to minimise waste.
