Unit Coordinator - Special Care Unit

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join the clinical leadership team as a Unit Coordinator for the Special Care (Dementia) Unit at Edmund Hillary Retirement Village in Remuera, Auckland. The position works Tuesday to Saturday, 08:00‑16:30, with a shared on‑call component.

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership, coaching and support to the nursing team, ensuring care is “good enough for mum and dad”.
• Foster a safe and enjoyable work environment in line with Ryman’s culture.
• Continuously assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for each resident in the Special Care Unit.
• Engage with residents’ families/whānau, visitors, allied health professionals and District Health Boards to build lasting relationships.
• Support the team in conducting interRAI assessments.
• Offer additional time outside rostered hours for events, resident or family support as needed.
• Spend quality time with team members, adapting shift patterns to connect with all staff.
• Communicate effectively to promote respect and trust.
• Collaborate as a positive team member and support the Clinical and Village Managers.

Required profile

• Current Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
• interRAI training or willingness to become competent.
• Extensive experience as a Senior Registered Nurse or nursing leader.
• Ability to lead, share knowledge and motivate a team.
• Kindness, compassion and drive to deliver exceptional resident care.
• Flexibility to share on‑call duties with other Unit Coordinators as scheduled.

Required skills

• interRAI assessment competency.
