Senior Manager Compliance & Conduct Risk

About the role

As a Senior Manager Compliance & Conduct Risk you will lead the first line of defence for ANZ’s New Zealand operations, partnering with business teams to identify, assess and manage conduct and compliance risks across end‑to‑end value chains. The role combines strategic oversight with hands‑on delivery, ensuring risk controls are embedded in processes, systems and decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and oversee conduct and compliance risk assessments across business processes, systems, data and value chains.
• Partner with business teams to design, uplift and embed practical, sustainable risk controls aligned with regulatory and enterprise frameworks.
• Translate conduct and compliance requirements into clear business language and advise on risk‑based decision‑making.
• Support regulatory and policy change through impact assessments and implementation of required changes.
• Review control design and effectiveness, identify gaps, and drive remediation planning and delivery.
• Provide risk insight, analysis and thematic reporting to influence governance forums and management decisions.
• Leverage analytics and indicators to spot emerging risks, trends and root causes, strengthening monitoring of risk and control effectiveness.
• Act as a trusted first‑line risk partner, strengthening accountability and ownership for conduct and compliance risk.
• Lead, coach and develop team members, contributing to capability uplift and a strong risk culture.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience in compliance, conduct or risk management within a financial services environment.
• Demonstrated ability to influence governance, decision‑making and risk culture.
• Strong judgement and insight into customer and compliance risk.
• Hands‑on leadership style with experience coaching and developing teams.
• Ability to work collaboratively with business stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
