Maintenance Fitter

About the role

Join the engineering team at Silver Fern Farms’ Pareora site in Timaru, the second largest facility in the network. As a Maintenance Fitter you will be responsible for day‑to‑day mechanical maintenance and repair of plant equipment, ensuring reliable and efficient production.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance to minimise equipment downtime.
• Respond quickly to breakdowns, restoring full production capacity safely and efficiently.
• Champion a strong health and safety culture through active participation and leadership.
• Ensure strict compliance with food hygiene and MPI regulations in controlled areas.
• Participate in new equipment installations, site projects and a variety of engineering challenges.

Required profile

• Relevant trade qualification (Level 4 Mechanical Diagnostics, Fitter/Turner, or Fitter/Welder).
• Experience in fabrication and a solid understanding of engineering principles, or a strong desire to develop them.
• Analytical problem‑solving ability with a proactive, root‑cause focus.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Commitment to health and safety and ability to work both independently and within a close‑knit team.
