About the role
The Executive Director will lead the New Zealand Speech-language Therapists’ Association (NZSTA), a national peak body that advances health equity, innovation and excellence in speech‑language therapy. Reporting to the co‑presidents and the board, the role is part‑time (30 hours across four days) and can be performed remotely from anywhere in New Zealand. The Director is responsible for operational leadership, strategic implementation and strengthening the association’s regulatory and member services.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of NZSTA’s strategic plan.
- Support the Board and AGM with strategic planning, compliance, reporting and policy.
- Oversee day‑to‑day operations, including financial oversight, organisational performance, risk management, systems, digital infrastructure and continuous improvement.
- Support NZSTA’s self‑regulatory functions such as professional standards, ethics, complaints, credentialling and scope of practice.
- Oversee delivery of continuing professional development events for members.
- Support operational committees (e.g., Ethical Standards & Complaints, Professional Standards).
- Provide leadership on issues management and advocacy efforts.
- Strengthen communications, member engagement and public profile.
- Represent NZSTA at relevant meetings and forums.
- Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, allied health partners, funders and sector stakeholders.
- Identify and pursue business development opportunities and partnerships to enhance reach and sustainability.
- Embed NZSTA’s commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi across policy and practice.
Required profile
- Proven strategic leadership within a professional association, membership organisation, regulatory environment or not‑for‑profit organisation.
- Strong experience working with governance boards and committees and an understanding of good governance best practices.
- Demonstrated financial stewardship capability, balancing member value, mission and long‑term sustainability.
