Biosecurity Officer – Regional Pest Management

About the role

Environment Canterbury is seeking a Biosecurity Officer to deliver the regional Pest Management Plan across North Canterbury. You will work independently in the field, spending most of your time outdoors in remote and high‑country locations, supporting landowners to protect the environment.

Key responsibilities

• Educate landowners on their responsibilities under the Regional Pest Management Plan.
• Conduct property inspections to ensure compliance with biosecurity regulations.
• Perform surveillance, pest control, investigation and risk pathway management activities.
• Manage individual pest projects, including budget tracking, operational planning, delivery and contractor coordination.
• Travel throughout the Kaikōura and Cheviot areas, covering mountains, rivers and remote sites.

Required profile

• Passion for the environment and a love of outdoor work.
• High level of physical fitness and experience with hill walking.
• Ability to work autonomously and organise your own schedule.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with landowners and stakeholders.
