Building Control Officer - Processing

About the role

The Building Control Officer – Processing will assess and certify building consent applications, ensuring they meet the requirements of the Building Act 2004.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and certify residential and commercial building consent applications.
• Review plans, specifications and supporting documentation for compliance with the Building Act, Building Regulations and the Building Code.
• Provide clear, technical advice to applicants and internal stakeholders.
• Make accurate decisions within agreed timeframes and record outcomes in the council’s system.
• Collaborate with the wider Building Services team to maintain consistent standards.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in a building‑related discipline as required by Regulation 18 of the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006.
• Current Residential and/or Commercial NCAS competency.
• Proven experience in building consent processing or a closely related role.
• Strong working knowledge of the Building Act 2004, Building Regulations 2006 and the Building Code.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Detail‑focused, methodical approach to decision‑making.
