About the role
As a Systems (Control & Instrumentation) Technician at Contact Energy’s Wairakei power plant, you will be responsible for keeping critical plant systems safe, reliable and efficient. The role blends hands‑on technical work, problem‑solving and collaboration with operators, engineers and contractors.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain and troubleshoot control, protection, instrumentation and electrical systems.
- Analyse system performance data and recommend improvements.
- Update and maintain plant documentation and control schematics.
- Support the development and implementation of maintenance strategies.
- Coach junior staff and promote safe work practices.
- Contribute ideas for continuous improvement of plant operations.
Required profile
- Relevant technical qualification (National Diploma, NZCE, trade or technician certificate).
- Experience maintaining control, instrumentation or electrical systems in an industrial environment.
- Strong computer literacy and ability to diagnose and resolve faults.
- Commitment to health, safety and environmental standards.
- Desirable: experience with PLCs, SCADA, HMI, condition monitoring, hazardous‑area certification or high‑voltage equipment.
