Senior Technician – Genomics Laboratory

About the role

The Bioeconomy Science Institute’s GenomNZ laboratory is seeking a Senior Technician to support its commercial genotyping services for animal breeders and researchers. The role involves managing the DNA genotyping pipeline, from sample preparation through to data reporting, ensuring high‑throughput and quality‑controlled results.

Key responsibilities

• Perform sample preparation tasks including DNA extraction, quantification, plating and archiving.
• Operate high‑throughput DNA microarray and sequencing platforms.
• Maintain and update the laboratory information management system and associated databases.
• Ensure compliance with ISO 17025 accreditation standards and develop/refresh standard operating procedures.
• Collaborate with data analysts and customer service teams to coordinate workflow and deliver results.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
• Minimum three years of practical laboratory experience, preferably in a commercial testing environment.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to perform routine tasks accurately and efficiently.

Required skills

• DNA extraction and quantification techniques.
• High‑throughput DNA microarray and sequencing methodologies.
• Use of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and database management.
• Knowledge of ISO 17025 accreditation requirements and SOP development.
