Senior Android Mobile Engineer

About the role

As a Senior Mobile Engineer you will help bring Air New Zealand’s digital ambition to life by building high‑performing Android applications that power millions of customer journeys. You will work in a dedicated product squad alongside Product, Design and Engineering peers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain advanced Android apps that support large‑scale customer interactions.
• Contribute to a scalable, secure and high‑performance architecture for rapid product evolution.
• Collaborate with product managers, UI/UX designers and backend engineers to translate ideas into elegant mobile solutions.
• Improve app performance, reliability and maintainability through continuous optimisation.
• Identify, troubleshoot and resolve complex bugs and performance issues.
• Champion modern Android practices and raise engineering standards across the squad.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership.

Required profile

• At least 5 years of Android development experience, preferably in large‑scale environments.
• Deep expertise in Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, with working knowledge of Java.
• Strong understanding of Android SDK, RESTful APIs and modern mobile architecture patterns.
• Passion for clean, maintainable code and delivering quality at pace.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, collaborative product environment.
