Project Engineer – Civil Construction

About the role
Higgins Wellington is seeking a driven Project Engineer to lead the delivery of civil construction projects across the region. This full‑time, permanent position offers the chance to own project outcomes, provide technical leadership and develop commercial and leadership skills in a fast‑paced environment.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate and deliver construction activities from inception to close‑out.
- Drive short‑ and medium‑term programming and daily site coordination.
- Provide technical leadership across engineering, quality and compliance.
- Oversee setting‑out, verification and technical assurance.
- Manage quality systems, ITPs, documentation and non‑conformance resolution.
- Monitor progress, identify risks and implement corrective actions.
- Support commercial performance through cost tracking, forecasting and variations.
- Coordinate subcontractors and suppliers to ensure safe, high‑quality delivery.
- Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and internal teams.
- Champion safety, environmental and quality standards.
- Coach and support Site Engineers, graduates and delivery teams.
Required profile
- Proven experience in civil construction or infrastructure project delivery.
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies and engineering principles.
- Experience leading project or section delivery and managing multiple stakeholders.
- Commercial awareness including cost control, variations and contract administration.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Construction or a related discipline.
- Full Class 1 driver’s licence.
