About the role

The Public Defence Service (PDS) in Dunedin is seeking an enthusiastic Legal Support Assistant to join a supportive team environment. This entry‑level, part‑time position offers 30 hours per week across five days, providing a solid foundation for a career in criminal law.

Key responsibilities

• Assist legal secretaries and provide general office support.
• Set up client files and collate legal documents.
• Process client disclosures and manage related paperwork.
• Cover reception duties and handle a variety of administrative tasks.
• Participate in the PDS induction programme and professional development opportunities.

Required profile

• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to follow instructions and see tasks through to completion.
• Comfort working under pressure and meeting deadlines.
• Proactive and initiative‑taking attitude.
• Customer‑service orientation and basic office administration experience.
