Health & Safety Advisor – Underground Mining

About the role

OceanaGold is seeking a Health & Safety Advisor to support its underground mining operations at the Macraes site in New Zealand. The role involves providing H&S expertise, ensuring compliance with legislation, and promoting a safe working environment both above and below ground.

Key responsibilities

• Manage safety in line with the H&S Management System.
• Assist with emergency preparedness, including evacuation and fire drills.
• Facilitate accident, incident and hygiene investigations and maintain incident records.
• Conduct risk assessments and implement controls for identified hazards.
• Perform occupational hygiene monitoring and oversee drug‑and‑alcohol testing schedules.
• Produce weekly and monthly safety reports and maintain safety statistics.
• Audit and maintain safety equipment such as eye‑wash stations, harnesses, fire extinguishers and gas monitors.
• Carry out internal safety audits and proactive inspections.
• Maintain the INX health‑and‑safety database for incidents, hazards and observations.
• Support delivery of training programs and educate staff on health, wellbeing and fitness for work.

Required profile

• Experience working in underground mining environments.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work quickly in a dynamic setting.
• Full Class 1 Manual Driver’s License.
• Confidence to work underground when required.
