General Hand / Machine Operator – Metal Recycling Yard

About the role

We are looking for a motivated General Hand / Machine Operator to join our metal recycling yard. You will work on‑site, operating equipment safely to load, unload and sort metal materials, supporting our commitment to circular economy and zero‑waste.

Key responsibilities

• Load and unload trucks, skip bins and trailers.
• Control on‑site traffic through clear communication.
• Operate forklifts and, where licensed, excavators.
• Inspect, grade and sort incoming metal for quality and type.
• Provide high‑level service to customers and internal teams.
• Follow occupational health and safety policies at all times.

Required profile

• Strong attention to detail when identifying and separating metal types.
• Can‑do attitude with willingness to undertake training.
• Good written and verbal communication, numeracy and basic computer literacy.
• Previous experience in customer service or similar hands‑on roles.

Required skills

• Forklift operation (forklift ticket preferred).
• Excavator operation (licensed where required).
• Metal inspection, grading and sorting.
