Design Lead – Tunnelling

About the role

ACCIONA is seeking a Design Lead – Tunnelling to head the design and delivery of major tunnelling and underground infrastructure projects in Auckland. The role provides technical leadership from feasibility and tender phases through detailed design and construction, ensuring safe, innovative and sustainable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design of tunnelling and underground infrastructure projects, including excavation, support and lining systems for both TBM and conventional methods.
• Direct complex geotechnical assessments, numerical modelling and ground improvement strategies.
• Develop groundwater management and risk mitigation plans.
• Provide technical leadership during construction, coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams and stakeholders.
• Contribute to major tenders, methodologies and technical proposals.
• Mentor and develop engineering talent within the business.

Required profile

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Significant experience in tunnelling and underground works design using both TBM and conventional excavation methods.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex technical interfaces.
• Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration skills.
