About the role

The Business Development Manager (BDM) is the key link between Unilever’s field team and the retail front‑line in New Zealand. Working across major grocery chains such as New World, Pak’n Save, Four Square and Fresh Choice, the BDM drives the execution of Unilever’s growth plans, builds strong relationships with store stakeholders and ensures the brand’s in‑store presence meets commercial objectives.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a territory business plan to achieve sales growth targets.
  • Present Unilever Business Reviews and use Dunnhumby and Nielsen data to create data‑driven sales stories.
  • Manage the “Perfect Store” process to implement best‑in‑class in‑store practices.
  • Deliver the Unilever Field Activity Plan and maintain collaborative relationships with owners, grocery managers and buyers.
  • Identify and negotiate incremental store‑based opportunities, including shelf space, displays, events and clearance relays.
  • Escalate non‑compliance issues through Foodstuffs official processes and work with Unilever Commercial Managers to resolve them.
  • Act as the voice of Unilever to retail partners, sharing brand updates, product information and market insights.

Required profile

  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels within retail organisations.
  • Strong analytical mindset with experience turning data into actionable sales strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills for presenting business reviews and negotiating store opportunities.
  • Familiarity with New Zealand grocery landscape and major retail chains.
