Analyst Level 1 – Business Intelligence (Justice Sector)

About the role

The Ministry of Justice’s Sector Insights team is seeking an Analyst Level 1 to join its Business Intelligence group. You will use data to uncover insights that guide decision‑making across New Zealand’s justice agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate justice‑sector issues using available data, both with predefined hypotheses and exploratory analysis.
• Prepare, manipulate, and maintain data sets to support operational decision‑making.
• Develop and share clear, data‑driven narratives with diverse stakeholders.
• Collaborate with the Analytics, Research, Reporting and Business Intelligence teams to deliver high‑impact insights.

Required profile

• Strong curiosity and passion for data exploration.
• Positive, can‑do attitude with willingness to learn.
• Ability to manage ambiguity, multiple deadlines and changing priorities.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Tertiary degree in a relevant discipline.
