Utility Worker – Site Preparation & Cabling

About the role

We are seeking five Utility Workers to support site preparation and cabling across a range of projects for Northpower. The role involves preparing work sites, installing electrical distribution assets and ensuring safe, efficient field operations in an outdoor environment.

Key responsibilities

• Identify hazards and set up safe work sites.
• Excavate trenches, detect underground obstructions and install electrical distribution assets.
• Operate specialised installation machinery and truck‑mounted cranes.
• Maintain equipment readiness and ensure compliance with Northpower, customer and regulatory standards.
• Meet productivity targets, solve problems quickly and communicate with teammates, supervisors, clients and suppliers.
• Suggest safety and process improvements and participate in personal development.

Required profile

• Physically fit with a strong work ethic and reliability.
• Commitment to safety and an excellent safety record.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience in labouring, construction or civil works.

Required skills

• Full Class 2 driver licence.
• Class 4, Class 5 and/or WTR endorsements (advantage).
• Truck loader crane operation (US16617) – advantage.
• Ability to read and interpret obstruction plans.
• Operation of specialised installation machinery and truck‑mounted cranes.
