Systems Administrator – Cybersecurity Focus

About the role
We are seeking an experienced Systems Administrator to join a small, high‑performing team in Wellington. This newly created position will work alongside the existing Systems Administrator, with a primary focus on strengthening the organisation’s cybersecurity posture and ensuring the stability of all digital infrastructure.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and execute proactive cybersecurity strategies, identifying vulnerabilities and reinforcing defensive controls.
- Conduct security incident investigations, support audits, risk assessments, and ensure compliance with the NIST Cybersecurity Framework 2.0.
- Maintain the stability, integrity, and performance of servers, networks, cloud services, business applications, and end‑user systems.
- Administer Azure and AWS cloud platforms, Windows and Linux server environments, and Microsoft 365 services (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Intune, Entra ID).
- Manage system upgrades, patching, disaster recovery, performance monitoring, and automation opportunities.
- Provide Level 2/3 technical support, overseeing endpoint protection, access controls, and email security tools.
Required profile
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity principles, frameworks, and best practices.
- Proven experience in incident response, threat analysis, and risk management.
- Deep familiarity with Microsoft 365, Windows/Linux, Azure, Active Directory, networking, and endpoint management.
- Advanced troubleshooting, problem‑solving, and time‑management abilities.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, work independently, and deliver excellent customer service.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft, CompTIA, ITIL, Azure, AWS) are highly regarded.
