Senior Legal Counsel

About the role

Milford Asset Management is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join its high‑performing Risk, Compliance & Legal team in Auckland. This newly created position will support the firm’s strategic growth and transformation agenda, providing expert legal advice across a broad portfolio of projects and day‑to‑day matters.

Key responsibilities

• Lead legal work on product launches, technology implementations and other strategic initiatives.
• Provide commercial contract advice, including drafting, negotiation and risk assessment.
• Advise on privacy, data protection, technology, governance, corporate, regulatory and compliance issues.
• Collaborate with business units to deliver real‑time, practical guidance that balances legal risk with commercial outcomes.
• Support the Head of Legal in shaping the firm’s legal strategy and risk framework.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with a New Zealand practising certificate (or eligibility to obtain one).
• 10+ years post‑qualification experience in a top‑tier law firm or in‑house legal team.
• Strong commercial law foundation, preferably within financial services or another regulated sector.
• Proven ability to manage complex projects and work at pace while influencing stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, collaboration and organisational skills.
