Senior Financial Accountant

About the role

The Senior Financial Accountant leads the Financial Accounting Team, overseeing core accounting functions and ensuring accurate, timely financial reporting. The role works closely with the Property Department and Regional Centres to support Capital and Major Works planning, funding and governance.

Key responsibilities

• Financial accounting oversight and team management
• Support for Capital & Major Works (CMW) planning and governance
• Stakeholder engagement, partnership and collaboration
• Process improvement and development of financial reports
• External reporting, audit coordination and compliance
• Risk management and internal controls
• Promoting wellbeing and growth within the team (Te Whenua)

Required profile

• Tertiary accounting qualification with at least seven years of experience in a large or complex organisation
• CAANZ Chartered Accountant qualification (or equivalent)
• Strong financial analysis and modelling capabilities
• Advanced Excel proficiency and ability to present data clearly
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Knowledge of Technology One Financials or a comparable enterprise accounting system
• Solid understanding of NZ GAAP and NZ PBE accounting standards
• Good knowledge of GST legislation and tax compliance
