Secondary Triage Clinician – Clinical Hub

About the role

As a Secondary Triage Clinician within St John’s Clinical Hub, you will provide high‑quality, patient‑centred advice via telephone and digital platforms. Working from the Integrated Operations Centre in Auckland or Christchurch, you will join a team of Clinical Support Officers on a rotating roster covering days, afternoons and nights.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate within the Integrated Operations Centre to deliver clinical advice and guidance to patients, relatives and health professionals.
• Conduct secondary triage assessments using evidence‑based protocols and clinical judgement to determine urgency and appropriate level of care.
• Communicate symptoms, health advice and self‑care instructions clearly to callers.
• Return incidents to the dispatch queue with the correct emergency ambulance response when required.
• Record all clinical interactions promptly and accurately in electronic health records or designated triage platforms.

Required profile

• Registered New Zealand Nurse or Paramedic with a current APC.
• Minimum two years post‑registration experience in acute, emergency or complex clinical settings.
• New Zealand resident or citizen.
• Experience in triage, emergency care, primary care or telehealth is preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication, critical thinking and decision‑making skills.
