Employment Tax Manager

About the role

PwC New Zealand is seeking an Employment Tax Manager to join its specialist tax team in Auckland. You will play a pivotal role in delivering high‑quality employment tax advice and compliance services to a growing portfolio of clients across New Zealand.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support employment tax advisory and compliance engagements covering PAYE, FBT and employee share scheme (ESS) reporting.
• Provide technically robust tax advice on remuneration arrangements, allowances, international workforce tax and employer compliance matters.
• Assist with tax risk reviews, voluntary disclosures, Inland Revenue interactions and other employment‑related tax projects.
• Support the structuring, reporting and advisory aspects of employee share schemes, including equity‑based reward arrangements.
• Collaborate with PwC’s national Tax & Legal Services network to deliver integrated solutions for corporate, private, legal and transaction clients.
• Leverage GenAI and digital tools to improve efficiency, consistency and client outcomes.
• Coach and mentor junior team members, delegating work and ensuring quality delivery.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor.

Required profile

• Qualified tax professional with several years of experience in employment tax matters.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex advisory and compliance engagements.
• Strong analytical and research skills with a focus on delivering practical solutions.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of PAYE, FBT, employee share schemes and related compliance requirements.
• Experience with employment tax risk management and Inland Revenue interactions.
• Proficiency in using digital and AI‑enabled tools for tax work.
