Driver Operator – Class 4/5 – Whanganui

About the role

Downer is seeking experienced Class 4 or Class 5 Driver Operators to join its Pavements and Chip Sealing crews in Whanganui. The role offers a guaranteed 40‑hour week, overtime during peak periods and a clear pathway for career progression within the construction and infrastructure sector.

Key responsibilities

• Transport materials, plant and equipment to and from job sites.
• Operate specialist chip‑sealing and paving machinery on‑site.
• Support sealing and paving operations across construction, renewal and maintenance projects.
• Maintain a safe work environment by following health‑and‑safety procedures.
• Collaborate closely with crew members to deliver high‑quality outcomes for the community.

Required profile

• Reliable, safety‑focused and physically fit.
• Positive attitude and willingness to support the wider crew.
• Strong work ethic and pride in delivering quality work.
• Good spatial awareness for operating in tight environments.

Required skills

• Full Class 4 or Class 5 driver licence (essential).
• Experience operating truck and trailer units and/or chip‑sealing equipment.
• WTR endorsement (preferred but not essential).
• Knowledge of health‑and‑safety practices on active work sites.
