Court Security Officer – Napier District & High Court

About the role

The Court Security Officer ensures a safe and secure environment for the Napier District & High Court, allowing the public to access justice without intimidation. You will work alongside a diverse team, providing professional security services and building relationships with court users and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Engage and build relationships with a diverse range of people.
• Conduct security screening and operate/maintain CCTV and electronic access control systems.
• Interact with police, corrections, lawyers, and judicial officers to ensure safe court proceedings.
• Patrol public areas, perform building security checks, and respond to duress alarms.
• Identify, mitigate, respond to, and report security, health, and safety threats and incidents.

Required profile

• Customer service, security, defence or government experience (desired but not essential).
• Confidence with technology and de‑escalation techniques.
• Physical ability to meet full‑contact officer safety training requirements.
• Hold a clean New Zealand driver’s licence and a clean criminal record.
• Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and cultural awareness, especially Tikanga Māori.

Required skills

• Operation of CCTV systems.
• Electronic access control system management.
• Use of X‑ray machines, walk‑through and handheld metal detectors.
• Security qualifications, including SRBA, RT, and handcuffing.
