About the role
Philip Morris International is seeking a Business Development Manager to join its Commercial Operations team in New Zealand. Based in Wellington or Christchurch, you will lead territorial growth, manage a high‑performing sales team, and accelerate adoption of the company’s smoke‑free product portfolio.
Key responsibilities
- Drive territorial sales performance across volume, share and portfolio expansion.
- Translate national strategies into local sales plans with clear monthly objectives.
- Ensure retail execution excellence – availability, visibility and pricing.
- Lead, coach and develop Territory Managers, conducting performance reviews and on‑the‑job training.
- Identify, engage and onboard new retail partners while strengthening existing trade relationships.
- Track and analyse sales and market data to uncover growth opportunities and monitor competitor activity.
- Support retailers in adopting digital and self‑service models and manage budgets for profitable growth.
- Maintain compliance with corporate, health, safety and regulatory requirements.
Required profile
- 5+ years experience in FMCG or sales, including at least 2 years as a Territory Sales Manager or similar.
- Proven track record of leading, coaching and motivating high‑performing sales teams.
- Strong commercial acumen with demonstrated sales growth results.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder‑management skills.
- Data‑driven mindset with solid analytical capabilities.
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, matrixed environment.
- Proactive, collaborative approach with strong ownership.
- Tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Marketing, Finance or a related field.
